Bernardo Huberman used to be a theoretical physicist working in the academia on collective phenomena in condensed matter theory, in particular on chaos and non-linear dynamical systems. Later, he has become one of the pioneers of applying physics-based ideas to a wide variety of cross-disciplinary problems. His career since the late 80's has involved instutitions such as Xerox PARC and most recently HP Labs, where he is the Director of the Social Computing Lab. Huberman's research in the last years has covered a wide array of topics from the World Wide Web to distributed information systems to, indeed, social computing.
